About the animated training video
This animated film tells the story of ecological degradation, climate change and increasing disaster and hardships in East Africa from the perspective of a young rural African woman.
Through this animated film, the character describes the stories of her ancestors and the changes in the contemporary landscape that can no longer provide food, water, livelihoods and stability.
The film takes us on a journey of social and economic factors as well as the impacts on peace, stability and protection risks. The narration and animated imagery also provide a deep understanding of the ecological and biological systems that stabilise landscapes.
The second half of the film is centred around an approach that restores ecosystem system function, strengthening community Agroecosystems from the home to the catchment area to show the myriad methods that can be applied to regenerate biodiversity, soil and water cycles.
The story ends with footage from DRC’s programs around East Africa where these approaches are already being implemented, providing a launching point to build on in our DRC Global Strategy 2025.
