Meet Jovanka Runić, our Protection Team Leader

Bearing in mind that Jovanka has been a member of DRC for almost four years, her biggest contribution has been developing outreach in all of its segments, including the establishment of a corporation with border police, local police, other agencies, and local communities, with the aim that together we can resolve existing issues more effectively, such as the planning and implementation of the referral mechanism.

Jovanka Runić, Protection Team Leader in the area of Una-Sana Canton, is a very dedicated worker whose daily activities are focused on the provision of help for the people in need without access to temporary reception centers and proper services. Together with the rest of the team, Jovanka visits several different locations on a daily basis in order to assist people in need. A very important part of her job is communication with the local representatives to find out where people are residing so that the DRC can realize what people are on the move. Once the needs have been identified, Jovanka organizes resources, supplies, and any other help that is needed to ensure that they have access to the services they need and to make their lives easier and more dignified.

“DRC is a great organization to work for, to learn, grow, and develop as a humanitarian, providing the perfect platform to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds and fields. Being surrounded by such knowledgeable, inspiring individuals encourages me to strive further and stay motivated to reach my goals. Also, I am passionate about making a positive difference for those in need. Working in the DRC allows me to directly contribute to the well-being of people on the move," says Jovanka, adding that she is thankful to be recognized for her talent, dedication, and hard work, which makes her even more motivated to always go above and beyond and strive for excellence.

"The biggest challenge when working is running into specific vulnerable cases on the field and needing to provide them with all of the support needed. Because it is emotionally stressful, we are supporting each other among the Protection team, as well as the other members of DRC," concludes Jovanka, who values hard work and dedication and is always willing to work extra hours outside of her normal workday when needed to complete deadlines or important tasks.
