Hope Amidst the Chaos: The Impact of the Cash Consortium of Yemen’s MPCA Programme
As Yemen's conflict stretches into its second decade, the country remains gripped by a relentless humanitarian crisis. Despite the reduced hostilities, the scars of war are evident everywhere—collapsed infrastructure, crippled economies, and shattered lives. Vulnerabilities have deepened, with economic decline fuelling local grievances, and children and women bearing the brunt of the conflict’s toll.
Like countless Yemenis, Mansyiah Faraj fled her home, leaving behind the life she had painstakingly built. Displaced from Al Hudaydah, she now resides in Beer Fadhel near Aden. Her daughter, living with a disability, requires regular physiotherapy—a challenging task under normal circumstances, let alone in a war-torn nation.
To combat the dire situation faced by families like Mansyiah's, the Cash Consortium of Yemen (CCY), funded by the European Union and hosted by the Danish Refugee Council, is providing crucial humanitarian assistance.
Launched in 2020, the CCY aims to provide life-saving assistance to the socio-economically vulnerable and those affected by the conflict.
Led by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), and supported by partners including Acted, Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), Mercy Corps, Solidarités International (SI), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the CCY delivers multi-purpose cash assistance (MPCA) to Yemen’s most vulnerable households.

In Beer Fadhel, Acted assessed Mansyiah’s situation, recognizing the urgent need for support. Her household was enrolled in the MPCA program, providing three-month cash assistance installments. “The cash assistance helped us clear part of our debt,” Mansyiah shares. “It was also essential for my daughter’s physiotherapy, especially when we do not have a source of income.”
MPCA is designed to bridge the gap between immediate needs and long-term resilience. For families like Mansyiah's, it’s a lifeline that offers hope and a path forward. “From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank the EU for funding this project and Acted for reaching out and assessing our situation. Our lives are getting better thanks to them,” she says with gratitude.
The story of Mansyiah and her family is one of resilience and hope. It highlights the profound impact of humanitarian aid in restoring dignity and rebuilding lives in Yemen. As the CCY and its partners continue their vital work, they bring not just assistance, but a glimmer of hope for a brighter, more stable future for Yemen’s most vulnerable.
In a land torn apart by conflict, where despair often seems overwhelming, the efforts of organizations like the CCY shine as beacons of hope. Through strategic aid and unwavering commitment, they help the people of Yemen reclaim their lives, one step at a time.
