World Refugee Day 2023: How many have been forced to flee?

According to the latest UN estimate, more than 108 million individuals worldwide have been forcibly displaced because of persecution, conflict, violence or human rights violations.

Right now, more than 1% of the world’s total population has been forced to flee. According to the UN, 108.4 million people were displaced at the end of 2022. That is the key statistic number in the new UNHCR Global Trends report leading up to World Refugee Day on June 20th.
